For the first time in the capital city of the North West Province, South Africa The Art Gallery will be opening its doors and the grand opening will take place at Dada Motors Centre on Saturday 06 October at 18h00.
The mission of The Art Gallery is to showcase various artists work and provide them with a platform where they can also inspire local artists in the province to fulfil their dream of turning their thoughts into a life form that can be interpreted be it abstract or otherwise.
The opening exhibit will highlight the works of a contemporary artist simply known as Kingsley whose bold coloured canvases depict playful images of African women sporting afros, musical instruments and wild animals.
Kingsley who finds hidden beauty in other worldly landscapes, emotion and everyday life started painting at the tender age of 6 in the East Rand, Gauteng where he grew up. He found refuge from a life of crime and bad influences in painting as a teenager and grew it into passion.
“It has always been my dream to open an art gallery, and when we found this great space, I knew the time was right,” says Tumi Tlhabi Director of The Art Gallery and brainchild of the infamous Lifestyle Market.”
“Our goal is to place artists’ work in a wide range of public and private arenas such that they can receive the recognition they deserve and flamboyantly express themselves through their work.”
The Art Gallery is the newest addition to the trendy lifestyle neighbourhood of Mahikeng, and the first fine arts gallery in the area by a black young woman. This stylishly minimalist gallery will continue to host exhibitions of emerging, mid-career and established artists creating contemporary works on paper, paintings, fine art photography, acoustics, photography, sculpture, assemblage and many more.
